Nikon Master Z or Tokai Neuroselect 7X: the two Premium lenses in the Gold band

Nikon Master Z or Tokai Neuroselect 7X: the two Premium lenses in the Gold band

Both lenses in this comparison are made in Japan. Both sit in the Premium tier of the Gold band on the Vision Express lens menu. They are the lenses to look at if you want a Japanese-made progressive and your optometrist has pointed you toward Gold. The difference you will feel first is not on the lens. It is on the calendar.

The two lenses at a glance

  • Nikon Master Z. Origin: Japan. Lead time: 3 to 5 days.
  • Tokai Neuroselect 7X. Origin: Japan. Lead time: 10 to 12 days.

That is a gap of one week or more. If your old glasses still work and you can plan ahead, the wait is manageable. If your current pair is broken, scratched or too weak, it decides the whole conversation.

What we will not claim

The lens menu does not print thickness, index or coating differences between these two. So we will not tell you one is clearer, thinner or more comfortable. Anyone who does is guessing. Lens performance depends on your prescription, your frame, your fit and how your eyes work together. Those are measured at your exam, not read from a brand name.

Both lenses also carry the offer that generally applies to Nikon and Tokai lines: Buy 1 Get 1. Confirm the current offer in store before you order.

Where Premium Gold sits

Gold Starter lenses are Essilor Varilux Start and Shamir Opulens Apex Pro. Gold Enhanced lenses are Essilor Varilux Physio Extensee and Shamir Autograph III D. Premium is the top tier within Gold, and both Nikon Master Z and Tokai Neuroselect 7X belong there. If you are weighing Premium Gold against Platinum, ask your optometrist what a step up would change for your particular day.

Which one if you are in a hurry

Nikon Master Z, by lead time alone. Three to five days is the shortest wait in the Premium tier. If you are travelling, if your office requires you to see a screen clearly by next week, or if you are replacing a lost pair, this is the practical choice.

Which one if you can plan ahead

Tokai Neuroselect 7X, if you prefer a Tokai lens and the wait does not bother you. Ten to twelve days is a long time to be without a pair, so order while your current pair still works. Christmas is the obvious pressure point in the Philippines, with everyone wanting glasses ready before December. Order early if you are aiming for a December pair.

A word on adaptation

Premium does not mean instant comfort. Every progressive needs an adjustment period, and the first week often feels odd while your eyes learn to use different parts of the lens. Wear them consistently. Turn your head rather than just your eyes for side views. If the fit feels off, come back for a free adjustment, because a frame that sits too low or tilts forward can spoil a perfect lens. Free lifetime custom fitting and adjustment is part of every pair.

Polarized or tinted Premium pairs

Nikon and Tokai premium tiers can be ordered polarized as custom-made progressives. If your days include long drives or rides on wet roads, ask the team. For impact-resistant material, which matters for riders and sports, we have no named line to recommend on this menu. Ask the team about the toughest material for your frame.

How the optometrist decides

The Vision7 exam gives the optometrist what a Premium lens needs: a refined add power, a binocular check and a clear case history. From there, the choice between the two is mostly about timing, preference and the offer that applies on the day. Neither choice is wrong.

Book your Vision7 eye test

Book a Vision7 eye test at your nearest Vision Express store. The seven-step exam fine-tunes your add power and checks how both eyes work together, which a Premium progressive depends on. Then ask for Nikon Master Z at the counter if you want a Japan-made lens in 3 to 5 days, or Tokai Neuroselect 7X if you can plan for 10 to 12 days. Every pair includes free lifetime ultrasonic cleaning, free lifetime custom fitting and adjustment, and a 1-year warranty.
