Six shopper profiles: which lens brand fits which person?
Vision Express carries lenses from Essilor (France), Shamir (Israel), Nikon (Japan) and Tokai (Japan), plus the Opulens range for Express service. The names on the lens mat can feel like a lot. It is easier to start from the shopper than from the brand.
These six profiles are starting points, not rules. Your prescription, your frame and your daily routine decide the final choice, and the optometrist makes that call after your exam.
First, the lead times
Lead time is a real difference between brands, and it is often the deciding factor:
- Essilor, France: 3 to 5 days
- Nikon, Japan: 3 to 5 days
- Shamir, Israel: 7 to 9 days
- Tokai, Japan: 10 to 12 days
- Opulens Pro Max, Hong Kong: 10 to 12 days
Lenses are made to your prescription after you order, so these are lab times. Express-service lenses are the exception and are covered below.
1. The person in a hurry
You need glasses this week. Look at Express service first: Basic 1.50, Opulens Advanced 1.60 and Opulens Ultra 1.60 can be ready in 20 minutes. Among branded lenses, Essilor and Nikon have the shortest lab times.
2. The person with a strong prescription
Thick lenses are the main worry. The mat points to Tokai BIR-W, or Tokai HR-W for the thinnest option. The trade-off is time, since Tokai takes 10 to 12 days. Plan ahead.
3. The person whose prescription just changed
Shamir Opulens Exact is made to measurement, which is why the mat lists it for a changed prescription and for astigmatism. Shamir takes 7 to 9 days.
4. The night driver
Glare and halos around headlights bother many Manila drivers, especially in the rain. The mat names Nikon Seemax Infinite Z for this. It is not a cure. Halos can also come from dry eyes, cataract or an out-of-date prescription, so get an exam if this is new.
5. The screen worker
For everyday single vision and screens, the mat lists Essilor Blue Light Single Vision, or Opulens Advanced 1.60 if you need it the same day. Blue light lenses are a comfort option and not a health treatment.
6. The person over 40 with a desk job
If reading glasses no longer cover a day of monitors, a progressive is the next step. For desk work and dual monitors the mat points to Shamir Autograph Intelligence and Essilor Varilux XR. If you are new to progressives, Shamir Autograph InTouch UX and Essilor Varilux Comfort Max are the adaptation-friendly picks.
What origin does and does not tell you
Where a lens is made tells you about lead time and the lab that makes it. It does not tell you that one lens is better than another for your eyes. The best lens is the one designed for your prescription and your habits, and fitted well to your frame.
About the offers
Essilor lines generally carry a Buy 1, 2nd Pair at 50% Off offer, while Shamir, Nikon and Tokai lines generally carry Buy 1 Get 1. Offers change, so confirm with the team before you decide.
Book your Vision7 exam
Book a Vision7 eye test at your nearest Vision Express store. The seven-step exam produces a prescription that the optometrist can then match to one of these brands with you. Tell the team which profile sounds like you, and ask for Shamir Opulens Exact if your grade has just changed or you have astigmatism: a made-to-measure single vision lens with the cylinder and axis cut precisely.
Every pair comes with a 1-year warranty, free lifetime ultrasonic cleaning and free lifetime custom fitting and adjustment.
