Lost your glasses on a Friday? A weekend recovery plan using Express service
It is Friday afternoon. Your glasses are gone: left in a taxi, sat on, dropped from a bag. You have a family lunch on Saturday, a drive to the province on Sunday, and a Monday that starts early. Here is what to do in the next few hours.
Step 1: Search for an hour, not a day
Check the obvious places once: the car, the bag, the last shop or restaurant. Call the place you last had them. If you have not found them after an hour, stop searching and start planning. Every hour you spend looking is an hour you could be waiting for a new pair.
Step 2: Find your prescription
Your prescription decides how fast you can be fitted. Look for:
- Your last Vision Express receipt or eye test record.
- A photo of your prescription on your phone.
- A spare pair or an old pair. The team can read the lens power from them as a starting point.
A lens reading is a starting point, not a substitute for an eye test. If your last exam was more than a year ago, or your vision has felt off lately, get a fresh one before ordering.
Step 3: Know which lenses can be ready fast
Express service is limited to specific lenses on the Vision Express lens mat. Not every lens qualifies.
- Ready in 20 minutes, in stock: Basic 1.50 (single vision), Opulens Advanced 1.60 and Opulens Ultra 1.60 (both blue light).
- Ready in 1 to 2 days: Opulens Blue Light 1.56, Essilor Photochromic Elements White 1.56, Essilor Transitions Classic HMC 1.56, and Essilor Elements White 1.56 for progressives.
If you wear progressives and need them made from a premium range, lead times run longer. Essilor and Nikon lenses take 3 to 5 days, Shamir 7 to 9 days, and Tokai 10 to 12 days. Those are lens-lab lead times, not shop delays.
Step 4: Decide between a stopgap and a proper pair
Many people order a same-day pair to get through the weekend, then order a better lens for the long term. That is a sensible plan. Ask the team whether the frame you like takes the Express lens, and whether you want a stopgap or your everyday pair.
If you already have a spare or an old pair, wear it for the weekend. Old glasses with a slightly outdated grade are usually fine for a few days, though they may feel less sharp. Do not drive with glasses that feel wrong.
Step 5: Plan your weekend around the lead time
- Friday before closing: Come in with your prescription. A 20-minute lens can be fitted and collected the same visit.
- Saturday morning: Same plan, and you have the whole weekend to use them.
- A 1 to 2 day lens: Order Friday and collect by Sunday or Monday. Confirm the day with the team.
- Premium ranges: Order now, wear a stopgap pair until they arrive.
What Express service does not do
It does not skip the exam, and it does not fix a wrong prescription. It also does not mean every lens is in stock. The 20-minute lenses are stocked for common prescriptions, so a very strong or unusual prescription may need a longer lead time. Ask before you plan around a deadline.
Prevent the next Friday scare
Keep a photo of your prescription on your phone. Keep a case in every bag. Consider a second pair, since a spare pair turns a lost pair into a minor inconvenience. Ask the team about the current offer on a second pair.
Book your Vision7 exam
Book a Vision7 eye test at your nearest Vision Express store. The seven-step exam confirms your current prescription so the replacement pair is right the first time. For a same-day pair, ask for Opulens Advanced 1.60, a blue light lens that can be ready in 20 minutes and works for screens all weekend and all week.
Every pair comes with a 1-year warranty, free lifetime ultrasonic cleaning and free lifetime custom fitting and adjustment.
